Job Description
About Us
The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences is internationally recognized for research into neurodegenerative disorders. Professors Spinazzola and Holt lead a world-class group in mitochondrial medicine, with pioneering discoveries in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations and disease. Their work focuses on translating this knowledge into potential therapies for currently incurable mtDNA disorders, using both cell and animal models.
About the Role
We are recruiting a Research Fellow to join Professors Spinazzola and Holt’s team. The successful candidate will investigate compounds that eliminate harmful mtDNA molecules and explore their potential as treatments for mitochondrial diseases.
Key objectives include:
Assessing the effects of small molecules on key cell types (especially neurons and cardiomyocytes).
Identifying metabolic conditions that support functional mtDNA.
Characterizing molecular events linking mitochondrial dysfunction to disease.
The post-holder will use targeted and omics-based approaches with patient-derived stem cell models and transgenic mice, working as part of a collaborative research team.
This position is funded until 30 April 2027 and is available immediately.
