Job Description

About the Role

The Sussex Bioinformatics Lab needs a skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bioinformatics. You would help build the CRUK Data Hub. This is an online platform. It makes cancer datasets easier to find, use, and share. Everything follows FAIR Data principles. You would team up with data scientists from Cancer Research UK. Also with the HDR-UK Health Data Gateway team.

Your main jobs involve web development. You would make sure metadata from CRUK-funded cancer data is top quality. You would create guidance materials and training stuff. Plus support web design to improve things for researchers.

On top of that, you would work on the Pearl AI DependANT project. Its an AI platform. It helps oncologists with tumour DNA and RNA sequencing data. They can find targeted therapies. Also spot relevant clinical trials.

Key tasks cover processing FASTQ and BAM or CRAM files. That produces variant call files. You would generate input data for AI tools. And implement secure, reproducible bioinformatics workflows.

You would also handle patient-facing documentation. Contribute to business planning for investors. Lead demos for oncologists. Collect structured feedback too. There are chances to attend Cancer of Unknown Primary multidisciplinary meetings. Analyze pilot study outputs. Collaborate with clinicians. All to make sure its clinically relevant. And has real impact.

About You

You need a recent PhD in bioinformatics. Or computational biology. Something related. With a real drive to use complex data for better cancer patient outcomes.

You should get excited about building secure, reproducible workflows. Ones that speed up research and clinical work. Strong coding in Python or Laravel is a must. Same for problem-solving. And web development experience.

Take pride in clean, well-tested code. Enjoy mixing data science, software engineering, and biology. Into practical, user-friendly solutions.

Collaboration matters a lot. You would work tight with oncologists, researchers, developers. Translate their needs into solid tools. Switch easily between technical pipeline stuff. And the bigger picture on patient care.
