About the role

The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources is part of UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment. It pulls together four top institutes. These places tackle big global issues in energy, environment, resources, and heritage. They do this through multidisciplinary research and teaching.

We need a Postdoctoral Research Assistant for our team. The role is on a project funded by NERC-UKRI. It looks at critical minerals supply chains and resilience frameworks.

About Us

The work dives into the complexities of global critical mineral supply chains. It aims to find ways to boost resilience and sustainability. The person in this job will handle material flow and economic modeling. That means using Material Flow Analysis, Life Cycle Assessment, and value chain modeling. All this supports the project’s goals.

The right person will team up with Dr. Teresa Domenech. They will also work with folks from the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. And there are Canadian research partners involved too.

About you

This position starts right away. It is for 6 or 12 months at first, based on full-time equivalent. Extension is possible if funding allows.

The best fit will have a PhD, or be close to finishing one, in something like sustainability, systems modeling, materials science, or environmental engineering.

They need strong quantitative and analytical skills. That includes data analysis, manipulation, and integrated assessment modeling.

It helps to have expertise or some familiarity with mining, critical minerals, circular economy, and value chain modeling.

Show a real interest in sustainable resource management and interdisciplinary research.

Be able to collaborate in international teams. And help produce high-quality academic publications.

Past experience in value chain modeling is a plus, but not required.
