About the Role
We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our dedicated Gynaecology Outpatient Department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The department provides high-quality care to women with a wide range of complex health issues across multiple specialist clinics, including Fertility, General Gynaecology, Oncology, and Colposcopy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse with strong clinical and communication skills who is passionate about women’s health. You will play a vital role in delivering safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support clinics, assist with procedures, liaise with patients and families, and help ensure the smooth running of the department. You will also take an active role in mentorship, service improvement, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients attending gynaecology clinics.
Assess, plan, and implement individualised care in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.
Assist clinicians during procedures, ensuring patients are comfortable, informed, and supported.
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, following NMC and Trust guidelines.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with Trust and national standards.
Support patient understanding and consent through clear, sensitive communication.
Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their preferences and needs are respected.
Participate in gynaecology ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and discharge planning.
Respond effectively in emergency situations, making safe clinical decisions under pressure.
Patient Communication & Support
Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly to patients, carers, and families.
Use communication skills to overcome barriers (e.g. learning disabilities, mental health needs, or language differences).
Handle patient enquiries and phone calls professionally, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
Build positive relationships with patients and their carers, ensuring kindness and empathy are central to care.
Service Delivery & Improvement
Support smooth patient flow throughout clinics and outpatient services.
Participate in audits, service evaluations, and improvement initiatives.
Ensure infection prevention, safety, and cleanliness are maintained according to Trust policies.
Report incidents, concerns, and equipment issues promptly to senior staff.
Maintain stock levels, equipment readiness, and appropriate resource use.
Contribute to departmental meetings and discussions on service development.
Education, Training & Mentorship
Assist with the induction, mentorship, and support of new colleagues and students.
Create a positive and supportive learning environment for junior staff and learners.
Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) and maintain clinical competence.
Attend all mandatory training and engage in the Trust’s appraisal process.
Participate in teaching and educational sessions to develop nursing and multidisciplinary skills.
Governance & Professional Standards
Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust governance frameworks.
Uphold Trust policies on equality, safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
Ensure high standards of documentation, accountability, and professionalism.

About You
You are a Registered Nurse (NMC) with a genuine interest in women’s health and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centred care. You will have excellent clinical, organisational, and communication skills and be confident working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Essential Criteria:
Current NMC registration.
Strong clinical knowledge and experience in women’s health or outpatient care.
Ability to assess, plan, and deliver individualised patient care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to infection control, safety, and high standards of clinical practice.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable:
Previous experience in gynaecology or related specialities.
Mentorship qualification or experience supervising students/junior staff.
Experience with audit, research, or service improvement initiatives.
