Overview of the Role
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our 15-bed acute mental health ward in Yeovil. As part of a well-established multidisciplinary team—including nurses, OTs, psychologists, and medical staff—you will play a vital role in providing timely, person-centred support to adults experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out rapid mental health assessments and develop individualised care plans.
- Provide safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused interventions.
- Administer and monitor medications in line with Trust protocols.
- Identify and manage clinical risks, ensuring patient and ward safety.
- Use de-escalation strategies and therapeutic communication during periods of distress or crisis.
- Work closely with colleagues from all professional backgrounds to deliver holistic care.
- Maintain detailed clinical documentation in accordance with NMC standards.
- Act as a keyworker, leading on care planning and review processes.
- Supervise junior team members and contribute to a supportive learning environment.

Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Lead and coordinate nursing care for your allocated patients.
- Monitor, record, and report changes in mental or physical health.
- Support personal care needs with dignity and respect.
- Deliver therapeutic activities and build professional therapeutic relationships.
- Complete physical health checks and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Ensure timely completion of clinical and risk assessments.
- Work in accordance with legislation including the Mental Health Act.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and clinical governance activities.
- Contribute positively to team morale and ward culture.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- RMN qualification or equivalent degree.
- Active NMC registration.
- Desirable Qualifications
- Teaching or assessor training.
Experience
- Previous experience in multi-agency mental health settings (desirable).
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel across the Trust when required (valid driving licence or access to transport).
- Evidence of post-registration learning is advantageous.
