About the Role
We are recruiting Postgraduate Teaching Assistants (PGTAs) to support a range of teaching and learning activities during the upcoming academic year.
As a PGTA, your responsibilities may include:
Supporting and supervising laboratory practicals
Assisting with small-group tutorials and student projects
Providing feedback and assisting in marking assessments
Helping prepare teaching materials
Your exact duties will depend on the specific modules you are assigned to and the needs of the department.
All PGTAs are required to complete mandatory online training to ensure compliance with UCL’s health, safety, data protection, and inclusivity standards.

About You
We are seeking motivated, enthusiastic doctoral students (PhD/MPhil) currently enrolled at UCL to join our teaching support team.
Eligibility Criteria:
You must be registered as a UCL research student at the time of appointment
You must have the legal right to work in the UK
You must provide valid right-to-work documents (e.g., passport, visa, share code) before appointment
Desired Skills & Experience (some or all of the following):
Knowledge of analogue electronics (up to first-year undergraduate level or higher)
Background in electrical or mechanical engineering
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
Familiarity with 3D printing and technical drawing
Experience measuring bio-impedance signals
Proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, Python, or Arduino
Design and fabrication (DIY) skills
Knowledge in physics (optics, thermodynamics, waves, nuclear medicine, etc.)
Experience using an Instron machine or materials testing
What We Offer
Averaged Hours Contract: Your total hours are evenly distributed over the term of the contract, with regular monthly pay
Starting Point: All new PGTAs begin at the first spinal point on Grade 6
Progression: Returning PGTAs (from the previous academic year) move up one spinal point
Sick Pay & Annual Leave: Both are automatically included in your monthly salary under the averaged hours arrangement
