Job Description

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) to join the LEMONTREE (Land Ecosystem Models based On New Theory, Observations and Experiments) project.

This role will focus on developing a theoretical framework for functional biodiversity, grounded in eco-evolutionary optimality (EEO) theory. You will conduct statistical analyses of plant trait data, link trait diversity to environmental constraints, and help establish a modelling framework for EEO.

You will also evaluate and optimize model performance using field and laboratory experiments, working closely with project collaborators at the University of Reading, Imperial College London, and Tsinghua University. The role also involves active engagement with other members of the international LEMONTREE team.

About You

You will hold (or be about to complete) a PhD in Environmental Science or a related discipline and bring expertise in biodiversity, functional traits, and environmental controls.

Essential skills and experience include:

Strong knowledge of functional traits and biodiversity.

Broad understanding of eco-evolutionary optimality concepts and modelling.

Good programming and data analysis skills.

Familiarity with data sources for model validation and evaluation.

Proven research experience and a publication record.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan, priorities, and deliver to tight project deadlines.

Visa Sponsorship:
This role may be eligible for Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship (subject to meeting requirements). Applicants are advised to review the UK Visas and Immigration guidance before applying.
