Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join the Assertive Outreach Team (AOT) male inpatient ward based at the Oleaster in Birmingham. This is a full-time role supporting the delivery of meaningful therapeutic activities that promote recovery, wellbeing, and independence for service users.
You will work under the guidance and supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist, alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team, to facilitate both 1:1 sessions and group activities on the ward and in the community. Your role will contribute directly to service users’ care plans, helping them prepare for discharge and long-term wellbeing.

Main Responsibilities
Support the delivery of occupational therapy interventions, including both individual and group-based activities.
Work collaboratively with the Occupational Therapist, nurses, and ward manager to implement therapeutic plans.
Use creative, meaningful activities to promote mental and physical wellbeing, skill development, and recovery.
Engage service users in community-based activities where appropriate, supporting their integration and confidence outside the ward.
Record and report observations on patient progress as part of the ongoing care plan.
Support the delivery of a 7-day therapeutic service, including flexible working during weekdays and weekends.
Contribute to creating a positive, safe, and inclusive therapeutic environment on the ward.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (e.g. 2 A-Levels A–C or equivalent technical qualifications)
Experience working with individuals who have mental health conditions
Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
Willingness to work flexibly including weekends
Desirable Criteria
Experience working in an acute healthcare or inpatient setting
Experience delivering therapeutic interventions, either one-to-one or in group settings
Additional Information
DBS Check Required: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. An enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB) will be required.
