About This Fellowship

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has created the MYDoc Clinical Fellow programme to support doctors who want flexibility, focused development, and high-quality clinical experience outside traditional training pathways.

These posts are ideal for doctors who are:

  • Building experience before applying for anaesthetic specialty training, or
  • Completing training and preparing for consultant applications, or
  • Seeking a structured, supported role with strong educational value

Although these roles are not UK training posts, they are treated as trainee-equivalent positions. Each MYDoc Fellow will have a named clinical supervisor, access to formal educational activity, and documented outcomes to support future career progression.

Clinical Focus & Development Pathways

Depending on your interests and experience, the role offers opportunities in:

Regional Anaesthesia
You will work with experienced consultants across a wide range of surgical specialties, including trauma & orthopaedics, plastics, and burns. Regular supervised lists allow you to build a broad portfolio of regional anaesthetic techniques.

Simulation & Education
The department delivers regular multi-disciplinary simulation training, focusing on emergency scenarios and rare events. Fellows will contribute to both service delivery and the design and delivery of simulation-based education alongside consultants.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver safe, high-quality anaesthetic care for elective and emergency patients
  • Manage patients with acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Participate in on-call rotas for obstetric anaesthesia, critical care, or acute services, depending on experience and competence
  • Work closely within specialty and cross-specialty MDTs
  • Contribute to departmental administration and service organisation
  • Teach and supervise junior doctors and other healthcare professionals

Take an active role in audit, clinical governance, and service improvement in line with NHS standards

Essential Eligibility Criteria

  • Medical degree from a recognised medical school
  • Evidence of Foundation competencies (or equivalent)
  • Completion of CT2 in Anaesthesia or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of initial obstetric anaesthesia competencies
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Anaesthetics or Intensive Care Medicine
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Strong clinical judgement, analytical thinking, and time-management skills

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Progress toward or completion of Royal College examinations (e.g. FRCA)
  • Advanced life support certifications (ATLS, ALS, APLS, or PALS)
  • Teaching, research, or quality improvement experience
  • Additional CT-level experience in related specialties
