A Role That Requires Compassion, Respect, and Care
This position is not just about technical tasks—it’s about providing dignity, respect, and sensitivity at one of life’s most difficult moments.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals are looking for a thoughtful and reliable Mortuary Assistant to join a caring and professional team. If you have a respectful approach, emotional awareness, and a commitment to high standards, this role offers a meaningful way to contribute.
About the Service
The Mortuary sits within a wider network of end-of-life and support services, working closely with:
- Bereavement and pastoral care teams
Hospital wards, including maternity and emergency services
Histopathology departments

- Manage the admission and release of deceased individuals, ensuring correct identification and documentation
Carry out tasks such as labelling, weighing, and record-keeping with precision
Prepare individuals for viewing, always respecting cultural, spiritual, and religious practices
Support and facilitate viewings for families or authorities, including occasional out-of-hours arrangements
Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and compliance with hospital procedures
Your work will directly impact how families experience care after loss—making attention to detail and empathy equally important.
Working Environment
You’ll be joining a team that values:
- Mutual respect and kindness
Emotional support among colleagues
Professional development and learning
Delivering consistently high standards of care
Every team member plays a vital role in maintaining a service that families can trust during sensitive times.
