Job Description

Join Our Team as a Research Midwife at UHSussex

Are you a dedicated midwife with a passion for advancing maternity care through innovative research? At University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex), we’re seeking an enthusiastic Research Midwife to contribute to groundbreaking obstetric studies. This position offers the chance to enhance outcomes for expectant parents and newborns by integrating clinical expertise with cutting-edge research, all while fostering a supportive environment that values your professional growth.

What You’ll Do: Core Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, you’ll take ownership of a diverse portfolio of maternity-focused research projects. Your key tasks will include:

  • Delivering exceptional, evidence-based care to study participants while adhering to rigorous research protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
  • Independently designing, executing, and reviewing care plans and trial procedures, incorporating input from participants, families, and carers to prioritise safety and satisfaction.
  • Coordinating daily operations, from participant recruitment and retention to precise data recording, sample collection, and procedure scheduling, ensuring trials progress efficiently and meet milestones.
  • Monitoring study performance across the obstetric portfolio, maintaining detailed documentation, and implementing adjustments to optimise results and timelines.
  • Leading multifaceted clinical trials with your specialised knowledge in obstetrics, while adapting to shifting priorities in a fast-paced research landscape.

You’ll also serve as a research advocate within the Trust, mentoring emerging investigators, facilitating departmental buy-in, and driving initiatives that align with broader NHS goals for improved patient experiences.

Collaboration and Impact

Success in this role hinges on teamwork. You’ll partner with multidisciplinary NHS colleagues, academic institutions, and commercial sponsors to expand our research initiatives and influence maternity services at local and national levels. By championing inclusive practices and measurable advancements, you’ll help shape the future of compassionate, high-impact healthcare.

This position is well-suited for those who thrive in collaborative settings and are committed to proactive problem-solving, ensuring every study not only meets its targets but also translates into real-world benefits for birthing families.

We’re proud to support international talent. This role qualifies for sponsorship via the UK’s Skilled Worker visa scheme, provided you satisfy UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) criteria—such as the appropriate skill level, a minimum salary of £25,000, and any occupation-specific benchmarks.
