About the Role
Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Medical Secretary to support the Rheumatology service within the Division of Medicine. This role is ideal for an organised, detail-focused administrator who enjoys working closely with clinical teams and contributing to high-quality patient care behind the scenes.
You will play a key role in ensuring patients move smoothly through their care pathway by providing consistent, reliable, and timely administrative and secretarial support to consultants, specialist nurses, and the wider Rheumatology team.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Medical Secretary, your work will directly support clinical decision-making and patient experience. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing high-quality secretarial and administrative support to Rheumatology consultants, clinicians, and specialist nurses
- Managing digital clinical correspondence and transcriptions in line with Trust standards and turnaround times
- Coordinating patient documentation to support safe, efficient end-to-end pathways
- Maintaining accurate records using Trust systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Acting as a professional point of contact for internal teams and external stakeholders
- Supporting effective communication across multidisciplinary teams
- You’ll be part of a collaborative administrative service where attention to detail, confidentiality, and professionalism are essential.

Essential Skills & Attributes
- Ability to learn new systems, processes, and ways of working

Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in a clerical or administrative role
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Confident use of Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications & Training
Essential:
- Minimum of three GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths at Grade C / Level 4 or above
- RSA III, NVQ Level 3, or an equivalent administrative qualification
- ECDL qualification or demonstrable equivalent IT experience

This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Successful applicants will be required to present original qualification certificates listed as essential in the person specification.
