About the Role
We are looking for compassionate and motivated Maternity Healthcare Support Workers to join our maternity team at the Princess Alexandra Wing, Royal Cornwall Hospital.
In this rewarding role, you will work alongside midwives and other healthcare professionals to support women and their babies throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Your contribution will help ensure care is delivered safely, respectfully, and in line with each woman’s individual needs, values, and preferences.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical and emotional support to women and their families during the postnatal period
- Assist midwives with a range of clinical and non-clinical duties to ensure high standards of care
- Build positive, professional relationships with mothers and families, communicating individual needs clearly to the midwifery team
- Support women with personal care following delivery, maintaining dignity, privacy, and cultural sensitivity at all times
- Monitor and record changes in skin condition, elimination, and general wellbeing, escalating concerns promptly to the Registered Midwife
- Assist with nutrition and hydration, ensuring intake is recorded accurately and reflects clinical and personal requirements
- Maintain clear, timely, and accurate documentation in line with Trust and national standards
- Carry out clerical and ward-based administrative tasks as directed by the Ward Manager
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Qualifications & Training
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or Healthcare Certificate
Desirable
- Venepuncture skills
- Experience supporting infant feeding choices (training can be provided)
