Role Overview
The School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen invites applications for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Anatomy (Teaching & Research).
We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative academic with a proven record in anatomical teaching and research. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and development of our world-class MBChB and BSc programmes, play a role in advancing research within the discipline, and inspire the next generation of medical and biomedical scientists.
This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to shape anatomy education in one of the UK’s leading medical schools.
Key Responsibilities
The postholder will:
Contribute to and lead (as appropriate) teaching in anatomy across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Participate in curriculum design, assessment, and innovation in anatomy teaching methods.
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Develop an independent research profile, with the potential to secure external research funding.
Collaborate with colleagues across medical sciences disciplines to enhance interdisciplinary teaching and research.
Contribute to the academic leadership and management of anatomy programmes, particularly at Senior Lecturer level.
Support the Regius Professor of Anatomy and the academic team in delivering a high-quality, student-centred learning experience.
The post will be based at the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare, located on the Foresterhill Health Campus alongside the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the Institute of Medical Sciences, and the Rowett Institute.
Person Specification
Essential (for both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer levels):
PhD (or equivalent) in Anatomy, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
Proven experience of teaching anatomy at undergraduate level, ideally within medical education.
Evidence of research productivity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Strong commitment to innovation in teaching and learning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary academic team.
Additional Requirements (for Senior Lecturer):
Evidence of research leadership and an established publication record.
Demonstrated ability to attract external funding and manage research projects.
Experience of academic leadership or significant administrative responsibility.
Recognized contribution to educational development, curriculum design, or quality assurance.
Salary and Benefits
Lecturer (Grade 7): £46,735 – £55,755 per annum (pro rata)
Senior Lecturer (Grade 8): £59,139 – £66,537 per annum (pro rata)
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and University policy.
