About the Department
UCL’s History of Art department is widely recognised for its global outlook and innovative scholarship. It brings together researchers exploring art across different time periods, regions, and methodologies, with strengths in visual culture, material practices, and technological approaches to art.

The Role
This position is for a Lecturer specialising in modern art and its theoretical frameworks. The role is ideal for a scholar who combines strong research credentials with a passion for teaching and academic collaboration.
The successful candidate will contribute to expanding the department’s strengths in modern and contemporary art history, engaging with critical debates and diverse global perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Develop and sustain an independent research profile with strong publication output.
Contribute to curriculum design in modern art and theory.
Supervise student dissertations and research projects.
Participate actively in departmental activities and academic leadership.
Engage with external cultural institutions and networks where relevant.
About You
You will bring:
A PhD in History of Art or a related field.
Evidence of high-quality research and published work in modern art or theory.
A strong interest in contemporary critical and theoretical debates.
The ability to connect your research to broader global, social, or political contexts.
A commitment to inclusive, innovative teaching and mentorship.
