About the Role
UCL is seeking to appoint a Lecturer specialising in Modern Art and Theory. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a globally leading department and shape research and teaching in modern art histories and theoretical approaches.
The successful candidate will begin in September 2026 and will contribute to strengthening the department’s expertise in modern and contemporary visual cultures.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Academic Contribution
- Deliver engaging teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
Supervise student research projects and dissertations
Contribute to curriculum development and innovative pedagogy
Research & Scholarship
- Produce high-quality, original research in modern art and theory
Publish in leading international academic journals
Contribute to current debates in art history and visual culture
Academic Engagement
- Participate in seminars, research groups, and departmental activities
Build collaborations with external cultural and academic institutions
Contribute to the department’s inclusive and interdisciplinary academic culture
About You
Essential Requirements
- PhD in Art History or a closely related discipline
Strong record (or clear potential) of research publications
Expertise in modern art and/or theoretical approaches to visual culture
Ability to deliver high-quality university-level teaching
Research Interests (Welcomed Areas)
