About the Role
The Faculty of Health, Sport and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Northampton is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing. This fixed-term, part-time role (0.5FTE) offers an exciting opportunity to contribute primarily to our Pre-registration BSc Nursing Programmes, with a particular focus on mental health nursing.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate nursing programmes, which include:
- BSc Nursing (Adult, Children and Young People, Mental Health, and Learning Disability)
- FdSc Nursing Associate
- Apprenticeship routes
You will support students through teaching, assessment, and academic guidance, both on campus and online, using a blended learning approach. The role also involves practice setting engagement and responsibilities as a personal tutor and academic assessor.
In addition, you will work closely with colleagues to ensure the programmes meet professional and regulatory requirements, while contributing to the high standards that have earned us strong Guardian League table rankings and NSS scores.
This role is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Mental Health Nurse with a passion for education and student success.
Essential requirements:
- Degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent qualification)
- Current NMC registration (Mental Health Nursing)
- Professional recognition as a HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA (or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe)
- Experience supporting students in a clinical and/or educational setting
Desirable requirements:
- Master’s degree in a relevant subject
- Doctorate (completed or near completion)
- Experience teaching and assessing in a higher education or practice setting
- Familiarity with NMC’s Future Nurse Standards and ability to teach relevant skills
You will be able to:
- Demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills
- Manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines
- Support and inspire students, particularly those with academic or personal challenges
- Collaborate confidently with colleagues and external partners
