About the Department
The Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS is a world-renowned, research-led academic department. The department specialises in political and international studies with a focus on the Global South, offering a blend of academic rigor and policy-relevant training. Its MA in International Studies and Diplomacy is internationally recognised, especially for preparing graduates for careers in global affairs.
Role Overview
SOAS invites applications for a Lecturer in International Relations. This is a permanent academic position beginning in Autumn 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The successful candidate will contribute to both research and teaching within the department.
We are seeking a scholar with:
A strong or promising research publication record
An active and forward-looking research agenda
Demonstrated excellence in teaching across various formats: undergraduate, postgraduate, online learning, and professional training
You will play an integral role in SOAS’s teaching programmes and contribute to research excellence within the department.

Essential Criteria
PhD (or equivalent) in International Relations or closely related field
Strong research profile with a developing publication record
Proven ability to teach effectively at university level
Ability to contribute to curriculum development, including online and professional training programmes
Commitment to student support and pastoral care
Willingness to engage in departmental service and administration
