About the Role
The University of Reading is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Inflammation to join the Division of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Biological Sciences. This permanent position offers an exciting opportunity for an experimental leukocyte biologist to develop an independent research programme within a supportive, research-intensive environment.
The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s internationally recognised biomedical research portfolio while delivering high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Research Environment
The School of Biological Sciences is a leading centre for research across a wide range of biomedical disciplines, including haemostasis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, endocrinology, developmental biology, neurobiology, and microbiology. Research Focus
While applications are welcomed from all relevant areas of inflammation and leukocyte biology, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research aligns with one or more of the following strategic themes:
- Cancer
- Cardiovascular disease
- Infection
- Neurobiology
You will be expected to establish a strong, externally funded research programme and publish in high-quality international journals.
Teaching and Academic Contribution
In this role, you will:
- Deliver engaging and inclusive teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate biomedical science programmes.
- Contribute to curriculum development in areas aligned with your expertise.
- Supervise postgraduate research students.
- Participate actively in academic citizenship within the School and University.
About You
You will bring:
- A PhD or DPhil in inflammation biology, immunology, or a closely related discipline.
- A strong record of high-quality research outputs in peer-reviewed international journals.
- The potential to secure external research funding.
- A clear commitment to excellent teaching and student engagement.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to academic work.
Selection Process
Interviews will take place over two days (2–3 March 2026):
Day 1:
- Research seminar presented to the School
- Teaching & Learning roundtable involving staff and students (with a pre-task provided in advance)
Day 2:
Formal panel interview
