Overview of the Role
Aberystwyth University is seeking a qualified and experienced Registered Adult Nurse to join its Healthcare Education team as a Lecturer. This is a full-time, permanent academic role supporting the University’s growing nursing programmes, developed in partnership with Health Boards and stakeholders to address workforce needs in Mid-Wales.
This role includes teaching, curriculum development, clinical skills delivery, supervision of students in both academic and practice settings, and contribution to CPD (Continuing Professional Development) programmes. You will play a key role in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare education, including BSc Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Nurse Associate programmes, Return to Practice, and Level 4 Healthcare Studies.
Teaching will be delivered in both English and Welsh (where possible), and you will support students across all areas of academic and clinical learning.
Main Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and high-quality teaching in healthcare, particularly in Adult Nursing.
Teach clinical skills and simulation in collaboration with simulation leads.
Act as personal tutor for students, offering academic and pastoral support.
Serve as module coordinator and manage learning content across multiple programmes.
Supervise student projects, placements, and practice-based learning.
Support curriculum development in line with NMC standards and “Once for Wales” 2020 curriculum.
Collaborate with external partners, healthcare professionals, and service users.
Maintain NMC registration and meet revalidation requirements.
Contribute to internal academic networks and attend faculty meetings.
Publish teaching and scholarship-related research or materials.
Support new and junior staff through mentoring and induction.
Act as an academic assessor in practice learning environments.
Maintain high professional standards, aligned with the NMC Code.
Travel for placement and practice assessments as required (UK driving licence essential).

Essential (Grade 7):
Qualifications
Registered Nurse (Adult Field) – NMC
Nursing degree
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Experience
Substantial clinical experience in various healthcare settings
Experience supervising or teaching nursing students
Proficiency in delivering up-to-date clinical skills
Knowledge
Strong clinical expertise and understanding of adult nursing
Knowledge of NMC educational standards and “Once for Wales” framework
Familiarity with modern approaches to teaching healthcare
Skills
Strong communication and presentation skills
Skilled in teaching, facilitation, and coaching
UK driving licence and willingness to travel for clinical visits
Welsh Language
Understanding of the University’s bilingual commitment
(Desirable) Spoken and written Welsh at C2 level

Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant subject
Teaching qualification (PGCE, PGCTHE, or equivalent)
Fellowship of the HEA (Higher Education Academy)
