About the Role

Aberystwyth University is seeking an experienced Lecturer in Healthcare Education (Adult Field Registered Nurse) to join its growing team. This role supports the University’s mission to meet healthcare workforce and community needs in Mid-Wales by expanding local training opportunities.

You will collaborate with Local Health Boards and key stakeholders to design and deliver a range of professional healthcare courses, including:

BSc degrees in Pre-registration Adult Nursing and Mental Health Nursing (full-time and part-time)

Return to Nursing Practice programs

Level 4 Certificate in Healthcare Studies

Registered Nurse Associate programs

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules

The post older will support teaching clinical skills and simulation, contribute to curriculum development, and deliver programmes bilingually in English and Welsh.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver on-site teaching across a broad range of healthcare and clinical skills topics with a specialist focus on Adult Nursing.

Deliver clinical skills and simulation sessions, supporting Clinical Skills and Simulation Leads.

Act as a personal tutor for allocated healthcare students.

Manage and coordinate modules, including overseeing colleagues’ contributions where required.

Encourage critical thinking and debate among students.

Collaborate with academic colleagues, service users, and stakeholders on curriculum development.

Lead or contribute to CPD program design and delivery for healthcare professionals.

Maintain up-to-date professional registration with the NMC and meet revalidation requirements.

Act as an academic assessor and support students and clinical staff in practice settings.

Manage nursing student placement opportunities and capacity.

Uphold the NMC Code of Conduct and act as a professional role model.

Engage in scholarly activities related to teaching and learning; publish relevant work.

Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement.

Supervise student projects, fieldwork, and placements as needed.

Develop teaching materials and methodologies to meet student learning needs.

Mentor junior academic staff and support new team members.

Manage personal workload including teaching, scholarship, and administration.

Provide pastoral care and first-line support as a personal tutor.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential for Grade 7:

Registered Adult Field Nurse with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

Nursing degree

Evidence of continuous professional development

Extensive clinical experience across various settings

Experience teaching, supervising, and assessing healthcare students in clinical and educational environments

Up-to-date clinical skills applicable to teaching roles

Understanding of bilingual working in Wales and university support procedures

Valid UK driving licence with willingness to travel for clinical visits

Essential for Grade 8:

Registered Adult Field Nurse (NMC)

Nursing degree plus a Master’s degree in a relevant subject

Teaching qualification (PGCE or PGCTHE) and HEA Fellowship

Extensive clinical and teaching experience in higher education

In-depth knowledge of new NMC education standards and the ‘Once for Wales’ 2020 curriculum

Advanced communication, presentation, teaching, facilitation, and coaching skills

Commitment to bilingual working; Welsh language skills at Level C2 desirable
