About the Role
The Department of Economics at the University of Reading invites applications for two permanent Lecturer (Assistant Professor) posts. These appointments are central to the department’s continued growth in high-quality teaching, impactful research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Based at the University’s award-winning Whiteknights campus, the role combines on-campus engagement with flexible working. Appointees will normally work on site several days per week and will contribute actively to both undergraduate and postgraduate provision.
Your Contribution
As a Lecturer in Economics, you will:
- Deliver engaging, inclusive teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
- Supervise student research projects and dissertations
- Develop and pursue an independent research agenda leading to publication in high-quality international journals
- Contribute to the wider academic life of the department, school, and university

The Department of Economics forms part of the School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (SPPE), which has a strong reputation for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline
- Publications in highly ranked, peer-reviewed international journals, with evidence of a strong and developing publication pipeline
- The ability to teach a range of economics topics at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
- Clear potential to contribute to a strong future REF submission
