About the Role

The University of Reading invites applications for two Lecturer (Assistant Professor) positions in Economics. This is a full-time, permanent role, based on our Whiteknights campus, with an expected start date of 1 September 2026. Candidates will be expected to work on campus for a portion of the week while also contributing to the vibrant research and teaching environment of the Department and School.

These positions offer the opportunity to combine innovative teaching with high-impact research, contributing to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across the School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

We particularly welcome applicants with expertise that can contribute to our Climate and Environmental Economics Research Cluster link although applications from any area of economics are encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Supervise student research projects, dissertations, and theses.
  • Conduct innovative and impactful research with outputs published in internationally recognized journals.
  • Contribute to departmental and interdisciplinary research clusters, including Climate and Environmental Economics.
  • Participate in academic administration, curriculum development, and mentoring of students and colleagues.
  • Engage with the wider academic community through seminars, workshops, and public dissemination of research.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline.
  • A record of publications in highly-ranked international journals, with evidence of a strong ongoing research pipeline.
  • Experience or potential to teach a variety of topics at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the Department and across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to supporting student success, inclusion, and professional development.
