Role Overview
Oxford Brookes University is seeking a creative and digitally skilled Learning Designer to join our Learning and Development team. In this role, you will design and deliver engaging, inclusive learning experiences that support staff professional growth and career development. You will play a key role in enabling strategic change by creating effective, user-centred learning aligned with University priorities.
You will report to the Head of Learning and Development and collaborate closely with colleagues across the People Directorate and wider University, including project teams and subject matter experts. Applicants wishing to strengthen their digital learning expertise are encouraged to apply, with opportunities to undertake a Level 5 Digital Learning Designer apprenticeship if not already qualified.
About the Team
The Learning and Development team is part of the Organization Effectiveness and Development function within the People Directorate. The team delivers learning solutions that build capabilities in line with the University’s 2035 Strategy. Our work includes digital learning design, face-to-face training, apprenticeships, and leadership development. We collaborate with multiple departments to enhance career progression and strengthen organisational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver a variety of learning experiences, including e-learning, microlearning, multimedia, and in-person sessions.
Work with project teams and subject matter experts to identify learning needs from system or process changes and translate them into engaging learning solutions.
Evaluate learning impact using feedback and data to continuously improve content and delivery.
Maintain and improve the Staff Learning System (LMS) to ensure a positive user experience.
Ensure all learning materials are accessible, inclusive, and follow best practices in digital and adult learning design.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
CIPD Level 5 or equivalent in Learning and Development or Digital Learning Design.
Experience designing blended learning (e-learning, video, workshops) using user-centered approaches.
Ability to analyze organizational learning needs and translate them into measurable outcomes.
Strong digital skills, including e-learning tools, LMS, video conferencing, and multimedia platforms.
Knowledge of adult learning theory, learning transfer, and inclusive instructional design.
Skilled in using feedback and data to improve learning content.
Confident communicator and facilitator, adaptable to different audiences and learning formats.
Location & Working Arrangements
Based at the Headington campus, just one mile from Oxford city centre, with a modern office environment.
Supports hybrid working; typically 1–2 days on campus per week, with flexibility depending on project requirements.
