Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of embedded software (firmware), platforms, and systems that control physical devices such as motors, alternators, engines, valves, fans, and other products. These devices require software that is specifically tailored to their hardware to ensure real-time functionality. This role demands a deep understanding of both the device’s characteristics and the real-time tasks it must perform, alongside the ability to design, implement, and test the necessary software logic.

The work will span various product lines and services and requires careful coordination across departments. You will play a key role in the planning and execution of operations within the department and may focus on executing activities within your technical discipline. While you will work independently, your decisions will be guided by established policies and results reviews. Additionally, this role allows for modifications in procedures, provided the final product meets quality, volume, and timeliness standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, and develop embedded software for a range of products, from small modules to full product solutions. This may include areas such as networks, operating systems, cybersecurity, databases, and applications.
  • Lead the design and development process for embedded software, taking a product through all phases from concept to release.
  • Manage small teams, including responsibility for staffing and performance development, leveraging technical expertise and analytical thinking to execute departmental policies and strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in related technical areas to integrate systems and ensure product functionality.
  • Use judgment and creativity to propose innovative solutions for complex problems, particularly those involving manufacturing processes with technical variety or interdependent cycles.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced team members, help drive consensus, and ensure clear communication across the team.
  • Lead small, low-risk projects, set performance expectations, and address sensitive issues when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced experience in Engineering/Technology and Embedded Software Development.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience, is preferred.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Strong documentation, planning, and program execution skills.
  • Established project management abilities.

Benefits:

At GE Aviation, we support flexible working arrangements and recognize the value of a positive work-life balance. Our comprehensive benefits plan, FlexChoice, offers you the flexibility to tailor your benefits package to suit your needs. Default benefits include:

  • Non-contributory pension
  • Life assurance
  • Group income protection
  • Private medical cover
  • 26 days of holiday (with flexible options to buy or sell days)

Additionally, BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Applicants who cannot obtain BPSS clearance may be ineligible for the role.
