Job Description
About GE Aerospace
At GE Aerospace, we invent the future of flight — designing, building, and maintaining advanced jet engines, components, and systems for both commercial and military aircraft. We’re driven by our purpose: lifting people up and bringing them home safely.
Respect for people is at the core of our culture and our FLIGHT DECK lean operating model. We empower our teams to innovate, collaborate, and continuously improve. For our people, this isn’t just a job — it’s a shared passion and purpose to help humanity soar higher.
Role Summary
In this pivotal role, you will support New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes, helping GE Aerospace develop the next generation of electric and sustainable propulsion systems. You’ll transform product designs into scalable, manufacturable solutions by developing production systems, facility layouts, and manufacturing strategies that ensure efficiency, reliability, and quality.
You’ll lead the creation of pilot production lines that demonstrate proof of concept for new technologies and processes, working closely with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to integrate lean and automated solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive manufacturing plans, including cell layouts, value stream maps, process flows, and timing charts to optimise cost, productivity, and ROI.
Collaborate with manufacturing and materials engineers to promote failure mode avoidance, robust equipment design, and integrated industrialisation strategies.
Influence design teams to ensure Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles are applied throughout the product development cycle.
Champion APQP and PPAP processes within NPI programmes; develop PFMEA, Control Plans, and inline process control strategies.
Coordinate with suppliers and internal sourcing teams to manage equipment and tooling acquisition, installation, and commissioning.
Lead the design and operation of a pilot production line, showcasing automation, lean processes, and new technology for next-generation propulsion systems.
Apply virtual manufacturing tools to simulate workflows, automation layouts, and factory space planning.
Support make/buy analysis and value engineering initiatives to guide strategic manufacturing decisions.
Act as the key interface between NPI, manufacturing, and support functions to align technical, cost, and delivery objectives.
Apply data-driven problem-solving methods to address production and process challenges.
Desired Skills & Experience
Proven experience in specifying, installing, and commissioning robotics, automation, or control systems.
Expertise in one or more of the following: composite manufacturing (CFRP/RTM), CNC machining, hydraulic systems, high-tolerance assembly, or non-destructive testing (X-Ray/Ultrasonics).
Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as Catia, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
Experience working in highly regulated industries (aviation, automotive, or similar).
Familiarity with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and digital manufacturing tools.
Understanding of condition-based monitoring and real-time data acquisition within smart manufacturing environments.
Experience using virtual simulation or digital twin tools for process optimisation.
Knowledge of Net Present Value (NPV) and Future Value (FV) calculations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
Proven experience managing technical projects in a manufacturing engineering or NPI environment.
Strong understanding of APQP, Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, or RedX methodologies.
Hands-on experience with facility design, commissioning, and automation systems.
Experience working with and managing subcontracted vendors and suppliers.
Knowledge of Health & Safety (H&S) and Construction Design & Management (CDM) regulations.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently toward business objectives.
Strong communication and data-driven decision-making skills.
Flexible Working
GE Aerospace supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements, recognising the importance of a healthy work–life balance.
Total Reward
Our FlexChoice benefits plan offers you the freedom and flexibility to tailor your benefits package.
Default Benefits Include:
Non-contributory pension
Life assurance
Group income protection
Private medical cover
26 days annual leave (with flexible buy/sell options)
Security Clearance
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which must be maintained throughout employment.
Failure to obtain BPSS clearance may result in withdrawal of an employment offer on national security grounds.
Right to Work
Applications are welcome from candidates requiring sponsorship to work in the UK. However, under UK immigration rules, candidates who already have the right to work in the UK may be prioritised.
