About the Role
The University of Nottingham (UoN) is seeking a KTP Research Associate in AI and Knowledge Systems to lead an exciting Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with AEGIS Engineering Systems (AES) Limited in London.
You will play a central role in developing Promethium, an AI-powered knowledge capitalization system that uses large language models and retrieval technologies to capture, structure, and make accessible AEGIS’s extensive engineering expertise. This strategic project will strengthen AEGIS’s innovation capability, embedding cutting-edge AI methods and scalable knowledge processes into its operations.
This is a unique career-development opportunity where you will deliver a high-profile, commercially important project, supported by leading researchers at UoN’s Computational Optimization and Learning (COL) and Cyber-physical Health and Assistive Robotics Technologies (CHART) groups.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of the AI-driven knowledge capitalization system (Promethium).
Apply expertise in knowledge graphs, language models, and retrieval-augmented generation.
Work closely with AEGIS’s Head of Innovation, its team, and Upon researchers.
Translate complex technical solutions into practical applications for engineering teams.
Collaborate with stakeholders and influence adoption across the business.
Manage your own workload effectively, with flexibility and initiative.
Take advantage of KTP support, including training, mentoring, and career development.
About You
Essential Requirements:
Master’s degree (or PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related field.
Strong experience in knowledge graph development and language models (including retrieval-augmented generation).
Proficiency in software engineering practices (e.g., agile development).
Strong programming skills (Python preferred).
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
Ability to influence, engage stakeholders, and deliver innovative solutions.
Desirable:
Experience deploying AI/ML systems in industry.
Background in applied research or innovation-focused projects.

About the Contract
Duration: 24 months.
Based at: AEGIS Engineering Systems, 138 Hollyburn, London EC1N 2SW.
Working hours: 37 hours per week (Monday–Thursday: 7.5 hrs/day, Friday: 7 hrs, with flexibility).
