About the Job
The Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) is a volunteer-led youth organisation sponsored by the Royal Air Force, managing both the Air Training Corps and RAF Sections of the Combined Cadet Force. As a uniformed youth organisation focused on Air, Space, and Cyber disciplines, RAFAC aims to inspire young people and cultivate an interest in the Royal Air Force while nurturing their potential.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Digital branch to develop and deliver bespoke web applications that support the organisation’s digital transformation goals through the Bader system. Bader is a set of in-house and commercial web applications that provide RAFAC with a secure online environment for its business operations.
This position is based at 37 hours per week and offers the flexibility to work remotely with occasional travel to RAF Cranwell.
Job Summary
As a Junior Bader Developer, you will work directly under the Senior Bader Developer, contributing to the development and delivery of web applications hosted on MOD infrastructure. In addition, you will support the wider Digital branch in adopting modern technologies to advance the organisation’s goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop bespoke software solutions for RAFAC, with a focus on:
.Net Core
Vue.js
HTML5
CSS
SQL and Transact-SQL
Participate in assurance and information security reviews of the Bader platform.
Support both volunteers and permanent staff within the Digital department.
Maintain and improve the Azure DevOps environment, supporting Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) where possible.
Advocate for digital change, delivering and communicating changes at pace.
Promote digital ways of working and support colleagues in their ongoing development.
Stay current with emerging digital trends and opportunities.
Engage in continuous professional development as per an agreed plan with line management.
Other duties as assigned by line management within the scope of the role.
Person Specification
The RAFAC operates as a geographically dispersed volunteer organisation, meaning some tasks may need to be completed outside regular working hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the availability of personnel.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
IT qualification in software development or relevant experience in software development (candidates without formal qualifications will be expected to undertake an apprenticeship in Software Development).
Experience working with the core stack: .Net Core, Vue.js, HTML5, CSS, and Transact-SQL.
Experience in creating and managing web applications.
Proficiency in using Information Technology tools.
Desirable Experience:
Familiarity with sprint and agile methodologies.
Knowledge of RAFAC’s operational structure.

Work Location & Flexibility:
This role allows for a combination of office and remote working, with the expectation of spending a minimum of 60% of working hours in the office (subject to capacity and workplace adjustments).
The position does not offer relocation expenses.
Additional Information:
Probation Period: External recruits to the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will undergo a six-month probation period.
Travel Expenses: Travel expenses for interviews will not be reimbursed.
