What is a Peripatetic Team?
We provide county-wide support for a range of service needs, such as increased workloads and team vacancies. The rotations you perform will normally last three months, however this can vary.
Wherever possible, we try to organise your rotations around where you reside. Depending on where your rotations take place, you may be able to claim travel fees and time under our Devon County Council policy.
The entire team, comprising two Team Managers, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Care Assessors, and freshly qualified professionals, works on a peripatetic basis.
About You
You must be a confident, adaptable Social Worker who welcomes change and is willing to rotate between several Devon teams (community, hospital, or specialised).
You will have the opportunity to hone your abilities in areas such as placement supervisor duties, assisting newly qualified workers, peer supervision, and influencing service growth within your team.
The task will vary based on the demand; you will be assessing the needs of persons with a variety of disabilities and medical issues.
As a Social Worker, you will create outcome-focused care plans for a variety of complicated needs while managing risk, as well as provide professional advice, mentoring, and support to others.
You will conduct Safeguarding Enquiries in cases where adults are at danger of abuse or neglect, as well as Mental Capacity Act Assessments and Best Interest determinations to ensure that people can live as independently as possible.
Using a strengths-based approach, you will think creatively and with a focus on people.

- We have launched the first phase of a new Social Worker Career Pathway in our Adults Services, with positions available at the Social Worker (Grade F) and Experienced Social Worker (Grade G) levels. Our Social Worker and Experienced Social Worker jobs follow the National Professional Capability Framework (PCF) for Social Workers. This framework standardises professional competences and provides a clear career path for local authorities.
- This is an excellent opportunity to give you with an achievable, clear path for your career, allowing you as a practitioner to reflect on and identify your own practice and progress on the PCF track.
- If you are shortlisted for an interview, your experience, abilities, and knowledge will be evaluated against the PCF domains, and if judged appointable, you will be assigned to either the Social Worker (Grade F) or Experienced Social Worker level (Grade G).
- With ongoing learning and support from your line manager, those appointed as Social Workers will be able to demonstrate incremental learning and submit an application for advancement to the Experienced Social Worker (Grade G) via a portfolio of supporting evidence against the PCF framework in due course.
