JOB SUMMARY

 

An exciting fixed-term opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse to join our sophisticated technology HDU facility, which closely monitors and offers nursing care to patients who have undergone significant or complicated orthopaedic surgery or who require level 2 care.

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with strong communication skills, the ability to foster excellent relationships among clinicians, allied health care professionals, patients, and relatives, enthusiasm, motivation, the ability to assist with change, and the desire to improve and develop clinical practice.

In the absence of the Band 6, the post holder is responsible for the critical care unit, utilising the unit’s resources to promote excellence in practice, and promoting and expediting quality concerns pertinent to the service.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manages the daily operations of the critical care unit to satisfy the needs of the service. Coordinates care delivery with the capacity to modify care pathway management as needed within critical care unit clinical management plans.

2. Oversee patient care delivery in the critical care unit, including developing and implementing care pathways and adjusting patient dependency levels. Performs clinical treatment in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct, Trust and unit guidelines, or clinical management plans agreed upon with the primary clinician.

3. Ensures successful communication by addressing communicative challenges in the sending and receiving of such information in a way that fosters outstanding relationships between clinicians, allied health care professionals, patients, and family. Furthermore, the postholder must be able to effectively express information using both verbal and nonverbal communication abilities.

4. Maintain expert knowledge and clinical skills in the field of critical care nursing while working in direct patient care, and provide evidence of PREP as required by the NMC. The post-holder must have dexterous abilities in clinical practice and be able to manage intense physical effort during the shift.

5. The postholder will be able to apply theoretical knowledge to practice by using analytical and judgmental abilities in a range of scenarios to determine direct patient treatment. The capacity to concentrate on work for extended periods of time is required for this position.

6. Participates in quality programmes and audits as needed under the supervision of senior critical care staff.

7. Responsible for the safe use of medical devices by all professionals in the critical care department during the shift.

8. For the duration of the assignment, you will be responsible for clinical supervision of all staff members working in the critical care unit. This responsibility will involve education and training, continuous professional development, discipline, and sickness.

9.Assists in the resource management of appropriate management information systems for patient data and manpower activities.

10. Keeps patient records correct and up to date for future reference, conforms with the Data Protection Act, and develops care plans to guarantee successful patient care.

11. Participates in audits and research to meet the needs of the organisation and critical care unit.

12. Offers effective support methods to staff, family members, and patients during difficult and stressful situations.

13. Responsible for COSH inside the critical care unit, and is anticipated to be often exposed to uncomfortable working circumstances while also encouraging a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors to the critical care unit.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND GOOD PRACTICE AT NHSLA

Risk management entails all personnel identifying situations and practices that place patients at risk of injury, and then acting to prevent and control these risks.

Staff must improve the quality of care by recognising, reporting, and assessing actual and potential adverse occurrences using the trust’s Clinical Incident Reporting system.

Every clinician’s practice should include risk control and reduction through changes in clinical and organisational practices to eliminate or reduce adverse occurrences.

RISK MANAGEMENT: HEALTH AND SAFETY

Cooperate in all attempts to decrease and/or eliminate the possibility of spreading undesirable/infectious organisms.

Follow the necessary rules for screening, admission, and transfer of potentially infectious patients.

All sharps injuries involving blood or serum should be reported to their manager and occupational health.

Participate in any screening initiatives launched by the Director of Infection Prevention and Control.

Protect the health and safety of patients and other workers by contacting their Manager and/or Occupational Health before reporting to work with transmissible or potentially dangerous conditions.

Infection control
