JOB SUMMARY

 

Astroscale UK is looking for an experienced Project Manager with Space or Aerospace experience to support our missions.

You will have the opportunity to lead or support the delivery of our space sustainability projects via matrixed project and engineering teams. Our project management team is in charge of balancing quality, cost, time, and risk to ensure Astroscale’s success. You will interact with a variety of teams, both internal and external, such as engineering, bid/commercial, clients, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

 

  • On complicated engineering projects, responsibility is given to the design and delivery of space missions (or portions of them). To be accomplished through the collaboration of matrixed project/engineering teams.
  • Planning and execution of project review gates, including administration and production of associated deliverables.
  • Establishing and maintaining a suitable balance of quality, money, time, and risk while executing projects and their associated outputs.
  • Generate project inputs for mission concept studies, technical or non-technical work packages, and bid work in support of the larger business.
  • Interacting with consumers, suppliers, and program partners as needed to support projects, bids, or other operations.
  • Internal reporting and accountability to top management and the business.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years or more of experience managing projects or programmes in the space or aerospace industry. A track record of successful mission delivery.
  • A “can-do” attitude and a desire to collaborate with others to achieve common goals.
  • A broad ‘technical’ project management skill set (delivery, schedule, financial, risk management, etc.)
  • Capability to cooperate successfully and lead a close-knit team of employees.
  • Experience preparing and completing project review gates (requirements, preliminary, critical, etc.)

Desirable Skills

  • Complete mission lifecycle experience, from requirement definition to verification, delivery, commissioning, and operations.
  • Practical comprehension and application of lean engineering approaches, as well as larger engineering processes and standards (e.g., ECSS).
  • High personal standards and a desire for honesty, transparency, and integrity.
  • The ability to understand, influence, and negotiate, along with a willingness to achieve mutually advantageous results.
  • University degree in a technological field.
  • Experience working with spacecraft system and subsystem functional teams such as Guidance Navigation Control (GNC/AOCS), Command & Data Handling (C&DH/OBDH), Propulsion, Software, Ground Segment, Operations, Mechanical Engineering, and so on.
  • Awareness of the Assembly Integration and Verification processes.
  • Experience in supplier management or unit procurement.
  • A fundamental understanding of debris removal, end-of-life, in-orbit maintenance or service, as well as the broader regulatory, legal, and mission context.
  • Experience working with difficult clients, partners, or suppliers.
  • Evidence of successfully ‘unblocking’ and completing projects that were behind schedule or over budget.
  • Experience in bid assistance, project financial accounting, quality/product assurance (QA/PA), or business development activities.
  • Experience successfully cooperating with people from various countries and cultures in a fast-paced technical work environment.
