Job overview

We are pleased to announce a full-time permanent Band 7 position for a qualified Mental Health Nurse with a passion for leading the development of evidence-based clinical nursing education to work as a Professional Nurse Educator in collaboration with both Specialist Services and the Department of Nursing Research, Education, and Development (NRED) at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The Professional Nurse Educator (PNE) will work throughout Sussex in our Specialist Services, which include inpatient and community clinical settings for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Forensic Services, Early Intervention in Psychosis, and Perinatal Services.

Main responsibilities of the job

The PNE’s goal is to provide supernumerary support for clinical, professional, and educational competencies while also developing the mental health nursing workforce.

The first six months will be spent assisting our IENs who operate in inpatient Medium and Low Secure Forensic Services at Hellingly and Chichester to improve their abilities to work at a Band 5 level, followed by a broader focus across the division.

The PNE will be in charge of delivering and evaluating programmes, nursing frameworks, and clinically relevant practice education to support the professional development of the mental health nursing team, with a focus on providing high-quality patient/person-centered care based on evidence-based practice and supported by national, organisational, and trust objectives, guidelines, and policies.

The PNE will equip the clinical team with expert knowledge and clinical leadership, making it easier to apply theory to practice in specific clinical contexts.

The PNE will guarantee that there are enough high-quality placements so that learners and staff can provide safe, effective, compassionate care.

The PNE will ensure that safeguarding procedures are in place and will report any issues or concerns to the leadership team.

This is a Sussex-wide function, and the PNE must be able to travel to many SPFT facilities.

Working for our organisation.

The selected candidate will collaborate with the Department of Nursing Research, Education, and Development to gain a better understanding of the overall strategic educational picture, but will spend 100% of their time in practice managing pre- and post-registration nursing, as well as apprenticeship placements.

Clinical assignments are an important element of the learning experience for students and trainees, and delivering high-quality placements benefits both individual growth and the Trust’s learning and teaching culture. The role will be both demanding and gratifying as it involves developing and delivering high-quality education and training in practice.
