The Cancer Services Division at UHB provides world-class cancer treatment to patients from all over the country, offering a variety of specialised services in oncology and haematology delivered by a team of specialist chemists, pharmacy technicians and assistant technical officers.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

As Deputy Accountable Pharmacist, you will be responsible for a variety of activities, allowing you to expand your knowledge and abilities through structured education and training opportunities. It offers a satisfying opportunity to help prepare cytotoxic medications, monoclonal antibodies, CIVAS, OPAT, and novel treatments such as clinical trials in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice and National Standards.

As the Deputy Accountable Pharmacist, you will collaborate with the Accountable Pharmacist, Quality Assurance Team, and Senior Production Team to run the unit, which will include:

  • Manage the Quality Management System
  • Educating and Training Staff
  • Financial reporting
  • KPI Reporting
  • HR Management
  • Clinical tasks (the extent of clinical duties might be discussed during the appointment).

Training and development opportunities will be provided within the role, including both internal training packages and external training courses.

This is a full-time role that involves working in two aseptic units at UHB: Melchett Road Aseptic Production Unit and Heartlands Hospital. We will consider part-time opportunities.

Applicants who do not match the person specification requirements for the function will be evaluated for a progressional position, beginning with a Band 7 role.

Qualifications

Essential

A master’s degree in pharmacy (or an equivalent qualification)

Registered as a chemist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Working towards a postgraduate pharmacy qualification or similar experience.

Evidence of ongoing professional progress in pharmacy-related subjects.

Significant post-registration experience working in an aseptic unit.

Knowledge of quality assurance, good manufacturing practices, and quality control.
