We have one simple promise: to create a good impact. We are improving people’s lives through groundbreaking research, excellent teaching, and a commitment to sustainable living.
The University of Derby is a modern university with a modern perspective. Everything we do is motivated by providing excellence and opportunities for our students, staff, and community.
We have some of the best university facilities in the UK, achieve outstanding results in teaching and research, and have been awarded Gold in the prestigious Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, placing us among the top universities in the country for outstanding student experience and outcomes.
We are financially solid and really ambitious, and we provide our employees with an inclusive culture that focusses on staff wellbeing. You can be confident that you will receive all of the aid and encouragement you need to establish a satisfying career with numerous opportunities to advance your abilities.
About the college/department.
Our library helps our communities achieve their goals by introducing new areas of knowledge and understanding and encouraging applied creative thinking.
Our approach is centred on providing a high-quality student experience, achieving outstanding student achievements, and fostering an excellent research environment. Keeping this in mind, our teams deliver on three key strategic themes:
Community – Libraries’ original purpose were to develop scholarly communities rather than to serve as book repository or gatekeepers to information. With that in mind, our focus is on how the Library supports the many populations we serve by creating connection and strengthening academic culture.
Confidence – The Library plays an important role in ensuring that all students develop into confident, independent learners and researchers. We will help students develop confidence and applied creative thinking through our academic skills provision and an industry-relevant skills offer that will improve their success both at university and in their chosen career.
Exploration and access to academic content are key components of the learning, teaching, research, and knowledge-sharing processes. The Library contributes significantly to the provision of scholarly content, collaborating with academic colleagues and students. We will aim to ensure that relevant content is given in a sustainable way, and we will use technology and metadata knowledge to enable our students and scholars to study and access the scholarly record.
About the Role
As the Digital Services Librarian, you will be responsible for the operational management and delivery of activities in support of the Library’s content and digital services, as well as contributing to and delivering on the Library’s Content and Digital Services operational plan. You will use your professional knowledge to configure library platforms, maintain access to library content, and collaborate to resolve technical difficulties in the Library’s digital environments.
About You
To succeed in this profession, you must be self-motivated and able to collaborate. You’ll use your experience managing and delivering user-focused services, leading successful projects, and managing and motivating others to deliver services that match with the University’s strategic aims.
