The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is one of the largest of its kind in the UK. The Department is delighted to host internationally renowned research groups spanning a wide range of activities and located over multiple sites. Our faculty and students have a wide range of interests and expertise, including physics, engineering, medicine, physiology, computer science, and mathematics. Our primary focus is on conducting exceptional academic research to uncover novel technologies and methods for disease diagnosis, treatment, and management through medical imaging, physiological monitoring, and the creation of implanted devices. About the role

Applications are being accepted for a Laboratory and Cleanroom Technician position with the Implanted Devices Group in UCL’s Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering.

The position holder will provide technical support for Cleanroom facilities for the Implanted Devices Group (IDG). The ideal candidate will have good organising and communication abilities, as well as a strong desire to advance their technical skills. The post holder will be expected to participate in appropriate training to advance their function and carry out the duties and obligations of the position.

Although the post holder will primarily operate in the IDG Cleanroom, they will also be expected to give support in various laboratory facilities around the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering.

About You

The successful applicant will have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or higher (including Mathematics, English Language, and a Science subject), or equivalent. Previous practical engineering, laboratory, or workshop experience is preferred, as is knowledge of laboratory maintenance and safety. Prior experience in a cleanroom environment is preferred but not required.

It is necessary to have verifiable practical talents or an interest in engineering (the ability to manufacture or repair things), as well as problem-solving and technical task performance abilities. The position holder will be expected to do routine maintenance, follow standard operating procedures, and perform technical assembly activities. Working with students and providing inductions and training to other laboratory users requires good communication skills. The position holder will be expected to create written reports, technical documentation, and maintain technical records. Training will be provided based on the successful candidate’s prior experience.
