Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
You will work with Professor Stacy Marsella on a project examining the form and function of nonverbal gestures in human social interaction. The chosen candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development and submission of research articles and research proposals, as well as assist in managing and directing this complex and hard project as chances arise.
Main duties and responsibilities
Perform the following tasks in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Principal/Co Investigator:
1. Individually or collaboratively plan and carry out assigned research in accordance with project deliverables and the laboratory’s overall research strategy.
2. Document research output, including data analysis and interpretation, record-keeping and database management, and draughting technical/progress reports and papers as needed.
3. Develop and improve your research profile and reputation, as well as that of the research group, by contributing to international quality publications in high-profile/quality refereed journals, increasing research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering esteem indicators.
4. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, as well as internal and external seminars, colloquia, and workshops, in order to grow and improve our research profile.
5. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team activities within the study group and the larger community.
6. Perform administrative tasks relating to the research group’s and School’s activities, such as budgeting and expenditure.
7. Stay current on the latest developments in the field/discipline.
8. Participate in continuing professional development programs as needed.
9. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School/Director of the Research Institute.
10. Contribute to raising the University’s international prominence in accordance with the Strategic Plan, Inspiring People, Changing the World.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
A1. SCQF Level 10 [Higher Degree] or equivalent.
A2. Expert theoretical and practical knowledge of how to collect nonverbal behaviour data and execute data analyses with R, Python, or an equivalent.
A3. Expert theoretical and practical understanding of how to conduct data analysis on human nonverbal behaviour.
A4. In-depth and current understanding of the broader topic area or subject specialisation.
Skills
Essential:
C1. Research originality and cross-disciplinary collaborative capacity.
C2. Excellent oral and writing communication abilities, especially public presentations, and the ability to explain complex data and concepts effectively and concisely.
C3. Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and a collegiate mindset.

Experience

E1. Experience with video annotation tools like ELAN.
E2. Sufficient relevant research experience suitable for an early career researcher.
E3: Project or subject-specific experience.
E4. Experience in scientific writing.
E5. Demonstrated capacity to produce quality results in a timely and effective manner.

Terms & Conditions.
Salary: Grade 6, £32,332 – £36,024 annually.
This position is full-time and has a fixed term ending on September 30, 2025.
