JOB SUMMARY

 

Join NCAS-CMS to supply and support high-performance computing services for UK environmental science research and the NCAS Science Strategy. You will be heavily involved in both computational and data science aspects, with a primary focus on testing and supporting numerical modelling systems and related codes on a variety of computational platforms such as ARCHER2, JASMIN, UK Met Office, the AI Research Resource (AIRR) platforms, EuroHPC, and a UK Exascale platform. This is an excellent opportunity to work and form partnerships with weather and climate scientists, research software developers, and computational modellers from partner organisations.

You will:

  • Provide support to the scientific community.
  • Installing foundational software on existing HPC and upcoming Exascale systems
  • Porting, optimising, and debugging software
  • Resolving specialist user queries.
  • Maintaining, developing, and executing modelling workflows
  • Represent the NCAS-CMS at national and international conferences.

Support user services.

  • Creating and sustaining data management services.
  • Maintaining and creating external-facing software systems.

Manage the CMS internal infrastructure.

  • Improving the CMS website, including the creation and deployment of container-based data services.
  • Working with CMS group members to create documentation and highlight recent projects.

You’ll have:

  • Programming in at least one of the following languages: FORTRAN, C++, or Python.
  • Use of contemporary software engineering practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or similar experience
  • Knowledge of HPC compute difficulties, such as optimisation and scalability.
