JOB SUMMARY

 

Join our friendly pharmacy trials team at University Hospitals Birmingham, including the Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull (HGS) campuses.

The team provides pharmacy assistance for the trust’s expanding R&D activities; we have a big portfolio of studies that require the pharmacy department’s input. This year will also see the expansion to include advanced therapeutic trials in the HGS portfolio.

You will be involved in the planning and management of upcoming studies. You will help with trial drug maintenance, dispensing, labelling, drug accounting, and investigating any discrepancies, as well as temperature monitoring of any areas where clinical trial medication is stored.

There is no requirement to have experience working within clinical trials because full training will be offered; nonetheless, you must have good organisational and communication skills and be able to show you are extremely self-motivated and flexible.

It will be necessary to work on a rotational basis during the evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

-Complete a nationally accredited Pharmacy Technician qualification and register with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Candidates who will complete their qualification and registration shortly will also be considered.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

Attend and participate in clinical trial feasibility and risk evaluation.

* Attend and contribute to Pharmacy initiation meetings as needed for new medication trials established in the Trust.

* Assist with the creation of Pharmacy study files for new medication trials beginning at the Trust.

* Receive, store, dispense, record, and ensure return accountability for each individual trial in accordance with the Pharmacy study file protocols.

* guarantee that documentation for each trial is completed correctly, amendments are applied, and documentation is filed in a timely way to guarantee that each trial file is properly preserved.

* Coordinate with research staff at the Trust, including medical, nursing, and R&D personnel, to ensure that drug studies are conducted safely and effectively.

* Help chemists with training and development.

* Generate and update trial SOPs.

* Meet with Clinical Research Associates from company-sponsored studies to conduct monitoring visits and follow up on identified actions.

* Proper temperature monitoring and timely reporting of temperature deviations.

* Conduct incident reviews and implement CAPAs.

* An audit of trials and trial services.

* Support for MHRA inspections.

* Keep the clinical trial database up-to-date.

* Arrange frequent invoicing for trials to Sponsors as asked using EDGE.

* Engage in specific training and development to match the job’s skill requirements.

Qualifications

Essential

*The General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain defines the NVQ Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmacy Service Skills and the Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmaceutical Sciences as equal.

*Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation, West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or progressing towards.

Registered as a technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Desirable

*Accredited Checking Technician West Midlands scheme, comparable, or in progress.

Experience
