JOB SUMMARY
Job Purpose
Lead business improvement by guiding and supporting a team that provides complete learning and teaching assistance to the School’s academic and student body. As a part of the Learning & Teaching leadership team, you will design, execute, and manage critical systems and procedures while driving continuous improvement to provide an effective superstructure for learning and teaching.
This position will be responsible for managing quality and professionalism in engineering service delivery, as well as contributing to change management initiatives and solutions that are aligned with the College and University’s strategic direction, in collaboration with the Transformation team.
Main duties and responsibilities
Lead business improvement initiatives in teaching administration across the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate taught portfolios to ensure their sustained and effective operation. This will include:
1. Create new procedures based on innovative thinking to promote ongoing process and practice improvement, streamlining administrative operations and increasing efficiency.
2. Effective compliance with University and School policies and procedures, notably assessment regulations and any professional body obligations, as well as effective communication of these to staff and students.
3. As a member of the School’s Progression Committee, advise and guide Heads of Discipline, Senior Advisers, and other academic colleagues on issues concerning the School’s taught programme portfolio, including progression data management.
4. Lead and contribute to the team’s development, deployment, and motivation to create excellence and a culture of continuous improvement and development in a customer-centric service. This will comprise line management of designated employees, performance and development reviews, personal and professional goals, and training and development.
5. Responsible for the successful management of all areas of taught course assessment and examinations, both undergraduate and postgraduate, including directing, mentoring and assisting the team to ensure high quality and consistent best practice.
6. Help the Teaching Office professional services team manage resources and capacity, including recruitment, in order to satisfy operational strategies, service standards, and requirements.
7. Ensure the integrity of data stored in central and local student record-keeping systems, as well as the implementation of university regulations governing the control of personal data, including protected characteristics.
8. Play an important role in representing the School as part of College and University improvement, automation, and other change activities.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Professional Services and/or the Learning and Teaching Manager.
Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience.
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (containing professional accreditation and necessary formal training), as well as personal development experience in a similar or related role(s).
A2 A thorough awareness of the difficulties affecting the university and higher education sectors.
A3 Comprehensive understanding of University processes and policies, as well as the systems that support learning and teaching delivery, quality improvement, and assurance.
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge of Quality Assurance techniques.

Experience
Essential:
E1 Proven experience in process design and improvement.
E2 Experience initiating and managing business transformation, including the ability to manage a team and persuade key stakeholders.
E3 Flexibility in working and adapting to changing environments.
E4 Experience preparing management information, analysis, and suggestions for senior management.
E5 The ability to read complex guidelines and offer advise and direction to colleagues and pupils.
Terms & Conditions.
The annual salary for Grade 7 will range between £39,347 and £44,263.
This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended (permanent).
