Role Overview
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is welcoming applications for International Clinical Fellow (ICF) posts in Critical Care. These positions are designed primarily for international medical graduates who already have experience in critical care or a related acute specialty and are looking to either begin their NHS career or further strengthen their clinical exposure within a large UK tertiary centre.
The successful applicants will join a supportive and academically active department, working closely with experienced consultants across a wide range of complex critical care services.
About the Department
The Critical Care service operates across both the Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital sites. Doctors appointed to these roles will gain hands-on experience within a busy tertiary environment managing patients with complex needs.
Exposure may include:
- Major trauma
- Neurology and neurosurgery
- Cardiology and cardiothoracic services
- Haematology and haemato-oncology
- Multisystem organ support in intensive care
Depending on experience and service requirements, fellows may work in:
- In-unit ICU rotas, or
- Outreach roles supporting emergency departments and inpatient wards.
- Each fellow will receive structured supervision and mentorship from senior clinicians.

Key Responsibilities
International Clinical Fellows will:
- Provide high-quality care to critically ill patients under consultant supervision
- Participate in ICU ward rounds, clinical reviews, and multidisciplinary discussions
- Support emergency and ward teams in managing deteriorating patients (where rota requires)
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals
- Contribute to teaching, audit, and quality improvement activities
- Develop clinical decision-making skills within a tertiary critical care setting

Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Primary medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Eligibility for GMC sponsorship where applicable
Clinical Experience
Previous experience in critical care or an acute specialty such as:
- Anaesthesia
- Emergency Medicine
- Acute/Internal Medicine
- Respiratory Medicine
- Nephrology
- Cardiology
Skills
Effective communication skills
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Professional and patient-centred approach
Desirable Criteria
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate qualification
- Evidence of research or audit participation
Teaching experience
- Demonstrated commitment to developing a career in critical care
ATLS certification
- Governance, Safety and Compliance
- This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check in accordance with the
