About the Role
We are looking for a caring, reliable, and motivated Housekeeper to join our Hotel Services Team at West Park Hospital. This role plays an essential part in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
You will support people who are receiving mental health and learning disability care, helping to maintain surroundings that promote dignity, comfort, and recovery. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of cleanliness in healthcare settings, and enjoys being part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team.
What You Will Be Doing
Environment & Cleanliness
- Clean and maintain patient areas, offices, and communal spaces to high healthcare standards
- Carry out routine and deep-cleaning tasks using approved cleaning agents and equipment
- Follow infection prevention, Health & Safety, and COSHH guidelines at all times
- Ensure cleanliness standards meet national healthcare requirements
Catering & Food Service Support
- Assist with food preparation, service, and cleaning of kitchen areas
- Use and clean catering equipment safely, including regeneration ovens
- Maintain food hygiene standards to protect patient safety
Working with Patients & Staff
- Interact respectfully and empathetically with patients, many of whom may be vulnerable
- Present a calm, positive, and professional approach at all times
- Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues
Flexibility & Reliability
- Manage your time effectively to meet daily priorities
- Be flexible and willing to cover additional hours when required
- Follow Trust policies, procedures, and instructions accurately

Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (or willingness to complete within 12 months)
- Numeracy and Literacy at Level 2
- IT skills at Level 2
Experience
- Previous experience using cleaning materials and equipment
- Experience carrying out general cleaning duties
- Experience working or volunteering in a mental health or learning disability setting
Knowledge
- Understanding of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
- Awareness of the National Standards of Cleanliness
- Knowledge of deep-cleaning procedures
- Understanding of confidentiality and patient dignity
- Awareness of Patient-Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE)
Skills
- Ability to follow procedures and instructions carefully
- Strong attention to detail and pride in high-quality work
Safe and effective use of:
- Cleaning and deep-cleaning equipment
- Motorised cleaning machines
- Kitchen and catering equipment
- Good communication skills
- Effective time management and prioritisation
- Knowledge of breakaway techniques or willingness to be trained
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping (or willingness to work towards it)
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment
