About the role

We are seeking friendly, dependable and caring individuals to join our Hotel Services Team as Housekeepers. This role is essential in supporting recovery by ensuring that our environments are clean, safe and welcoming for patients, visitors and staff.

You will work closely with colleagues across different professions, supporting people who may be experiencing mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Every task you complete contributes directly to dignity, wellbeing and quality of care.

What you will be doing

As a Housekeeper, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality cleaning across patient areas, offices and communal spaces
  • Supporting catering and food service activities when required
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene, infection prevention and safety
  • Safely using cleaning chemicals, equipment and machinery in line with procedures
  • Engaging with patients, carers and colleagues in a respectful, empathetic and professional manner
  • Promoting positive attitudes towards mental health and learning disabilities
  • Working flexibly and supporting the team during busy periods or at short notice
  • Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within Hotel Services

Working with us

  • You will be based at North Moor House, Northallerton. Flexibility is important, as there may be opportunities for additional hours depending on service needs.
  • You will receive a structured 5-day induction programme, with location confirmed prior to your start date, alongside ongoing training and development.

Essential requirements

Qualifications

  • Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe)
  • Literacy and numeracy at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grades 9–4 / A*–C)
  • ITQ Level 2

Experience

  • Experience of general cleaning duties
  • Experience using cleaning chemicals, materials and equipment
  • Experience working or volunteering within a mental health or learning disability environment

Knowledge and skills

  • Understanding of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
  • Knowledge of national cleanliness standards and deep-cleaning processes
  • Awareness of Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Safe and effective use of cleaning and kitchen equipment, including motorised machinery
  • Ability to prepare and serve food safely
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management and task prioritisation
  • Knowledge of breakaway techniques or willingness to be trained

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping or a related qualification
  • Previous experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment
