About the Role

We are excited to offer the opportunity to join Abbotsbury Ward, a GOLD accredited, multi-specialty ward at Dorset County Hospital. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care across a range of clinical areas, including:

• Gastroenterology

• Surgical care

• General medicine

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play an essential role in delivering compassionate care throughout the patient journey — from admission to discharge — including pre- and post-operative care. This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment where no two days are the same.

What You’ll Do

• Support patients with daily personal care (e.g., washing, dressing, mobility, nutrition).

• Work under the supervision of registered nurses and contribute to care planning.

• Monitor and accurately document patient observations and care activities.

• Assist in preparing patients for surgery and support their post-operative recovery.

• Adapt to the changing needs of the ward, responding to high workloads with professionalism and flexibility.

• Work collaboratively across different adult wards when required.

What We’re Looking For

• Essential:

  • A caring, patient-focused attitude with a commitment to providing high standards of care.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.

  • Good attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.

  • Flexibility to work across multiple wards as needed.

• Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or care setting.

  • Working knowledge of patient care practices.
