 Your Role in the Team

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting patients and clinical staff by delivering safe, respectful, and high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting patients with personal care such as washing, dressing, and meals
  • Observing and recording vital signs, including NEWS (National Early Warning Scores)
  • Carrying out blood glucose and ketone monitoring after training
  • Collecting clinical specimens (urine, stool, swabs, wound samples, COVID-19 tests)
  • Assisting with clinical procedures such as ECGs, venepuncture, and cannulation (following training and competency sign-off)
  • Supporting nurses and doctors using safe and aseptic techniques
  • Encouraging patients with health, wellbeing, and lifestyle changes
  • Maintaining dignity, privacy, and respect at all times

Training, Development & Progression

  • We believe in developing our people.
  • Candidates without the required competencies will be appointed as a Band 2 Trainee Healthcare Assistant
  • Clear progression to Band 3 once training and competencies are completed
  • Full induction programme and ongoing clinical supervision
  • Access to NHS learning pathways and apprenticeships

 Person Requirements

Essential

  • Experience providing personal care in a healthcare or care setting
  • Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker qualification or equivalent experience
  • Care Certificate (or willingness to complete within 3 months)

Willingness to complete training in:

  • Vital signs
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Urinalysis and screening swabs
  • Basic IT and computer skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience supporting junior staff or trainees
