About the Role
The University of Chichester is seeking an experienced and proactive Health and Safety Adviser to join our Estate Management team.
In this key role, you will support the Health and Safety Manager in delivering both strategic and operational health and safety planning across the University. You will help to promote and develop a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and best practices.
You will act as the primary point of contact for all health and safety matters, providing expert advice, guidance, and practical solutions. Your responsibilities will include conducting risk assessments, site inspections, audits, and accident investigations, as well as identifying and implementing continuous improvements to support a safe working and learning environment.
The post holder will also deputise for the Health and Safety Manager when required and contribute to the ongoing development of a positive and proactive safety culture across the institution.

Key Responsibilities
Support the Health and Safety Manager in ensuring University-wide compliance with health and safety legislation.
Conduct and report on statutory compliance checks, inspections, and audits.
Lead or assist in incident investigations, risk assessments, and development of action plans.
Promote awareness and engagement in health and safety best practice across departments.
Provide training, advice, and guidance to staff and students.
Deputise for the Health and Safety Manager as required.
Contribute to the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
About You
You will be an experienced and qualified Health and Safety professional, ideally holding a relevant NEBOSH or equivalent qualification.
Essential skills and experience include
Strong, up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within an educational or complex organisational environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence colleagues at all levels.
A flexible, pragmatic, and solutions-focused approach.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours support at University or Students’ Union events.
