Job Description
About UCL
UCL is London’s Global University—an institution recognised for world-leading research, a diverse international community, and a commitment to education that drives positive societal change. With more than 50,000 students and 17,000 staff drawn from over 150 countries, UCL is one of the most vibrant and dynamic universities in the world. Our culture is defined by innovation, inclusion and a drive to support both staff and students to do their best work.
The Opportunity
As Head of Student Recruitment for East Asia, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening UCL’s presence and reputation across a strategically important set of international markets. You will lead a high-performing team of Liaison and Recruitment Managers, guiding their efforts to enhance brand visibility, support applicants, and deliver strong recruitment outcomes.
This role involves working closely with colleagues across UCL—including Admissions, Global Engagement, Alumni Relations, and the Office of the President & Provost—to shape and execute market plans that expand UCL’s reach. You will analyse regional trends, oversee the development of country-specific strategies, and champion approaches that support sustainable growth in student numbers.
You will serve as a key adviser to internal stakeholders, offering insight into student behaviour, competitor activity, and educational landscapes across East Asia. The role also includes representing UCL at major UK and overseas recruitment events, as well as contributing to global visits, partnership development and high-profile institutional initiatives.
Who We’re Looking For
You are a confident leader with a deep understanding of the international student recruitment environment, ideally from within a large or complex university. Knowledge of East Asian markets—particularly China—is essential, as is the ability to translate market intelligence into effective recruitment strategies.
You will bring:
- Proven experience planning and delivering international recruitment campaigns
- Strong leadership and team-management capabilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and build relationships with partners, agents and internal stakeholders
- A collaborative mindset, supporting cross-team working and shared strategic goals
- A commitment to diversity, inclusion and responsible, ethical recruitment practices
- Experience managing budgets and agent relationships
- Mandarin language skills (beneficial but not essential)
Right to Work
This post meets the criteria for the Skilled Worker Visa or Global Talent Visa under UK immigration rules, and we welcome applications from international candidates.
What the Role Offers
Alongside the opportunity to help shape UCL’s global student community, you will benefit from:
- 41 days of leave (27 annual + 8 bank holidays + 6 closure days)
- Option to purchase an additional 5 days of leave
- Defined benefit CARE pension scheme
- Cycle-to-work scheme and season ticket loans
- Immigration loan support
- Relocation assistance (for eligible posts)
- On-site nursery and fitness facilities
- Enhanced family-friendly pay
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Access to discounted medical insurance
How to Apply
Applications must include:
- A detailed CV
- A supporting statement showing how you meet the essential and desirable criteria in the job description
- Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in person during the week of 19 January 2026.
Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
As London’s Global University, we understand the value that diverse perspectives bring to innovation and community. We want UCL to be a place where everyone feels respected, included and empowered to excel.
We particularly welcome applications from groups underrepresented at UCL—especially Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, disabled applicants, and (for Grades 9–10 roles) women.
