Cwm Calon Surgery and Aberbeeg Medical Practice are well-established, patient-centred practices serving approximately 5,500 people within the close-knit communities of the Abertillery and Blaenau Gwent area. We’re proud to be a growing, training-focused practice led by a dynamic partnership team who prioritise clinical excellence, wellbeing and collaborative working.
Following the award of the Aberbeeg Medical Practice contract, we are expanding and seeking enthusiastic and committed General Practitioners to join our multidisciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for newly qualified or experienced GPs wanting a supportive environment with genuine prospects for partnership.

Our multidisciplinary team includes:
3 GP Partners • 2 Salaried GPs • Practice Nurses • GPSTs • Medical Students • Clinical Pharmacist (IP) • HCAs delivering chronic disease management • Dedicated prescribing team • GP Support Officers.
You will also be supported by a GP Partner who chairs the NCN, offering opportunities for involvement in local healthcare planning and population health initiatives.
Role Overview
As a GP within our practice, you will provide high-quality, holistic care to patients across both sites. You will contribute to routine and urgent clinical work, continuity of care, chronic disease management and ongoing service development.
The practice delivers a broad mix of enhanced services, including:
- Joint injections
- Shared-care prescribing
- DOAC initiation and monitoring
- Warfarin monitoring
- Diabetes injectable/insulin therapy initiation
- Drug and alcohol misuse management
- You will play an important role in contributing to audit, governance, team meetings, training and quality improvement.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- MBChB or MBBS
- MRCGP and CCT
- Full GMC registration and licence to practise
- On, or eligible to join, the All Wales Medical Performers List
- Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centred primary care
Desirable
- Previous experience in a GP training practice
- Interest in teaching or service development
- Additional clinical skills relevant to enhanced service delivery
