About the Role

We are looking for a qualified accountant to join our Group Accounting Team, which plays a vital role in both Management Accounting and Financial Reporting for the University. This team is responsible for statutory reporting, including consolidated Financial Statements, reports to the Office for Students (OfS), and submissions to other funding bodies.

As the data hub of the Finance Office, the Group Accounting Team provides reporting across all areas of the University, from academic departments to administration and commercial activities.

Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with the Group Accountant, focusing on the preparation and review of the University’s consolidated financial data. Your tasks will include:

Quarterly management accounts and year-end statutory accounts

Financial planning and forecasting
Managing reporting spreadsheets used across University departments for financial planning and reporting
Overseeing the consolidation of quarterly accounts and financial plans, including report development and data analysis
Developing financial models to aid planning, decision-making, and best practice implementation
Processing and maintaining central transactions such as grant income, student fees, and service charges
Preparing committee papers and supporting financial analysis
Compiling statutory financial returns, including reports for OfS and HESA, and reviewing returns from other departments
Supporting the Finance Office with management information, assisting in financial control, planning, and decision-making

About You

We are seeking a proactive, highly organized accountant with:

A good honours degree and a recognized accounting qualification
Strong Excel and data analysis skills
A solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
The ability to provide financial advice to finance and non-finance colleagues
Experience working within strict reporting deadlines

Additional Benefits:
A £5,000 per annum market supplement (pro-rated and non-pensionable) is available for candidates who provide proof of current membership of an approved accounting body and hold the appropriate qualifications.
