About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Centre for Reproductive Medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital as a Fertility Nursing Assistant. Our service is a well-established and highly regarded IVF unit, delivering a wide range of assisted conception treatments, including IVF and donor gamete programmes, in the heart of London.
This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, organised, and genuinely motivated to support individuals and couples during what can be an emotionally and physically demanding time. You will work closely with nurses, clinicians, embryologists, and administrative colleagues, contributing to both hands-on clinical care and patient-focused administrative support.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and in line with Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) requirements, you will:
- Assist in clinical areas including the IVF theatre, procedure rooms, and recovery area
- Act as a chaperone during examinations and procedures where required
- Support outpatient clinics and contribute to the smooth running of daily services
- Help prepare clinical areas, maintain stock levels, and ensure high standards of cleanliness and infection control
- Provide administrative and communication support, helping patients access timely nursing advice
- Anticipate patient needs and respond with sensitivity, professionalism, and discretion
- This is a varied role requiring emotional awareness, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Who We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
- GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent Key Skills Level 1 in literacy and numeracy
- NVQ Level 3 in Health or Care (or equivalent), or a minimum of two years’ experience delivering clinical care within an assisted conception setting
- Understanding of infection prevention and control principles
- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements and data protection responsibilities
Essential Experience
- At least two years’ experience working within a clinical team
- Experience dealing directly with patients or the public, demonstrating strong customer care
Essential Skills & Attributes
- Ability to organise and prioritise your own workload
- Comfortable working under supervision and following clinical direction
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Calm, respectful approach in sensitive and high-pressure situations
- Awareness of patients’ physical, emotional, cultural, and social needs
Basic IT and computer skills
- Due to the intimate nature of some clinical procedures, this role may include a lawful occupational requirement in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
Training & Development
- You will be supported to develop your skills further within fertility services and are expected to engage in ongoing learning relevant to the role.
