About the Faculty
The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) at King’s College London has its roots in the work of two pioneering women: Florence Nightingale, who founded the first professional nurse training school at St Thomas’ Hospital in 1860, and Dame Cicely Saunders, renowned for her palliative care research and role in developing the hospice movement.
Today, NMPC is recognized as a world leader in healthcare education, training, and research. The Faculty has grown in strength, with King’s ranked #1 in the world for Nursing (QS, 2025), an excellent performance in REF2021, and a thriving community of around 2,600 students across undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and research programmes.
The Role
King’s College London is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Executive Dean of NMPC, guiding the Faculty through its next phase of growth and innovation.
The Executive Dean will:
Provide strategic leadership to strengthen the Faculty’s reputation in nursing, midwifery, and palliative care.
Enhance interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration within King’s and beyond.
Foster strong partnerships with NHS and healthcare organizations.
Advance the student experience, supporting excellence in education, research, and practice.
Play a key role in University governance as a member of the University Executive and Academic Board.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will bring:
A distinguished research record in nursing, midwifery, palliative care, or a related discipline.
Proven leadership and strategic vision in higher education or healthcare.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire staff, students, and partners.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to fostering a collaborative and respectful culture.
The capacity to navigate complex operational and financial environments while driving innovation.
